  • Total Area: 703 Sq. Miles
  • Population: 135,925
  • Median Household Income: $57,334
  • Median Age: 35.6

The area now known as Livingston Parish was one of the Florida Parishes of Louisiana because it was part of West Florida until 1810. Livingston Parish was created in 1832 from part of St. Helena Parish, and after several changes to the location of the county seat over the decades, Livingston became the official county seat in 1941. The parish is named after Edward Livingston, a prominent Louisiana statesman, jurist, and U.S. Secretary of State (1831-1833). He was influential in drafting the Louisiana Civil Code of 1825, which is unique to Louisiana and differs from the other 49 states in many instances.

In modern times, industries in the parish include wood products, metal products, and plastics.

Livingston Parish is Louisiana’s fastest-growing region. The schools are excellent, the economy is booming, and the parish is home to arts, culture, outdoor recreation, gorgeous golf courses, museums, and a rich history to explore. Anglers will find over 600 miles of waterways for fishing, and hunters have 67,712 acres available for hunters on the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area. Residents enjoy a local water park, river adventures, antique shops, and surround themselves with Creole and Cajun food and culture. There are both rural and urban areas in Livingston Parish, so there is always a place where you belong.
